AFL-CIO ramping up GOTV efforts as Election Day approaches

Written by awfblog | November 1, 2024

Fred Redmond, Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss their Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts leading up to Election Day. He shared some of the concerns from union members about the election and what their vote could mean for the future.

With Election Day coming up on Nov. 5, Redmond discussed his schedule for the next five days as part of the AFL-CIO's GOTV efforts. He expects to participate in five different GOTV efforts in five states prior to the close of the polls.

In places such as Philadelphia, union volunteers from UNITE HERE and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are currently canvassing union members and encouraging them to cast their ballots. Redmond talked about the support provided by affiliated unions around the country and why cities like Philadelphia have been a focus for the AFL-CIOs GOTV efforts.

Finally, Redmond discussed the messaging being shared across the AFL-CIO, its labor councils and affiliated unions during these efforts. During his conversations, union members spoke about their fear for the future and what jobs would be available for their children and grandchildren, he said.
