Written by awfblog | June 3, 2022

AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the AFL-CIO’s upcoming convention in Philadelphia where he and President Liz Shuler are expected to be elected to full-term positions.

Redmond and Shuler were appointed to their current roles following the unexpected death of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka last year. If elected, Shuler will be the first female elected as president of the AFL-CIO, and Redmond will be the highest ranking elected African American to serve the labor movement.

Redmond also discussed the AFL-CIO’s position on gun restrictions and the need for political action.
